On our recent trip to Ethiopia, we were fortunate enough to take a committed knitter, Julia George. My husband Noel persuaded her into teaching what she loves to the children of Ethiopia. She collected bags of yarn and joined us on our annual trip; teaching anyone in her path. Laurie Maves, an art therapist on the trip and I were excited to learn, as well.
When I talked about my new found love with others I found so many comments like, “Oh! I am not ready for THAT yet,” or as I attempted to set up a knitter friend with a gentleman he said, sarcastically, “She knits every weekend, how SEXY is that?” I was shocked at the judgment. I thought to myself, “I want to change the face of knitting!” As a life coach, I have realized that knitting had endless meditative aspects and is an incredible way to feel accomplished, maintaining a lineage of art, and giving gifts from the heart. My friend Laurie agreed to join me, go forth and make a difference; hence a calendar is born.
Partial proceeds from calendar sales benefit the developing world through the Cunningham Foundation.
If you want more information about the calendar, would like to contribute or purchase gift certificates, or if you are interested in being part of our project for 2011, we would love to hear from you!
